December 12, 2024 / šŸ¦‘ Some batch actions from all views, Lock Entities, Fibery-to-Fibery sync, left sidebar changes

In this release you will find some experimental features, so itā€™s a perfect timing to explore them in Settings ā†’ Experimental Lab.

:squid: Left sidebar changes and Search in left sidebar (experimental)

In this release weā€™ve started preparations for major left sidebar changes (nested spaces, databases, search and my items switcher). What was changed:

  • Styles of all elements are unified. Now special sections like Favorites, Hidden for Me, Smart Sections, etc look like Spaces.
  • My Space renamed to Private.
  • Templates, Activity Log and Trash moved from the bottom left to the top menu.

Search in sidebar (experimental)

You can also enable Search in left sidebar in Settings ā†’ Experimental. It is not ready for prime-time yet, since it works too slow in some cases. We are polishing it and hope to release it fully next week.

:potted_plant: Some batch actions from all views (Action Buttons, Delete, Merge, Convert)

Now you can select many cards on Board, List, Timeline, Calendar (next release) and Feed Views and execute some actions (Convert, Merge, Delete, and custom Action Buttons).

NOTE: This is mostly a preparation release for fields updates batch actions. It is not possible to updated fields (yet).

Selection should be quite intuitive, try to select some cards, hold Cmd key to add/remove cards, hold Shift key to add/remove cards.

Poor manā€™s batch fields edit via custom Action Button

Since there are no fields changes (yet), you may try to create an action button with Ask User values for fields and use it already as a batch update. It will be required to create such button for every database you want to change, but at least you can go with some of the most popular databases till we release native fields batch update.

:zipper_mouth_face: Lock Entities

Sometimes users make unintended changes to important entities. Now you can Lock Entity and prevent unexpected changes. It works on Entity View and all other Views, but this entity still can be modified via Automation rules or API calls.

Any user with Edit access can lock an entity. Click ā€¦ in the top right corner on entity view and select Lock editing action. Click Locked banner on top if you want to make some changes and then click Re-lock banner to lock the entity again.

In the next release we will add Lock to Documents and Views.

:hand_with_index_finger_and_thumb_crossed: Fibery-to-Fibery sync (experimental, enterprise plan only)

For some complex scenarios in a large organization you may run several Fibery workspaces. Sometimes you need to connect them and fetch some databases from one workspace to another workspace. Fibery-to-Fibery connector can handle that.

NOTE: Fibery-to-Fibery sync is Enterprise plan feature, but it is not enforced yet. You may try to play with it, but we are going to enforce Enterprise plan restriction early January.

Fibery-to-Fibery sync databases with all the fields and relations, rich text fields with images, videos and embeds, and even Fibery users.

Some important limitations:

  • Fibery-to-Fibery sync is one-way, it means you can only update information in one workspace.
  • All selected databases will be synced into a single space, but you can setup several Fibery to Fibery syncs.

Quick Add: Show all applicable forms for a database

If you have some forms created for a database, you can select them in Quick Add. It may be handy if you have several scenarios for new entity.

:butterfly: Improvements

  • Now ā€œis any ofā€ is the default operator for filtering values in relations and single/multi-selects filters
  • Plans limits:
    • Imported entities are not counted towards the integrations monthly usage limit.
    • True to the pricing page, Script action in automations is only available for those on new Pro and Enterprise plans. If you were a paying customer before this November, the change wonā€™t affect you no matter your plan.
    • As announced in our pricing FAQ, legacy Solo workspaces have received the same resource limits as those on the Standard plan: e.g., 1,000 automation runs and 25,000 entity syncs per month. However, you can upgrade to Pro for more, even if youā€™re alone in your workspace.
  • LaTeX support graduated from experimental and supported in markdown export.
  • Whiteboard: User can show/hide author on a specific sticker
  • Whiteboard: Rapid sticky notes creation using tab. In text editing mode within a sticker, you can now create a new sticker while typing by pressing the Tab key. The new sticker will appear to the right of the current one, and the editing focus will move there automatically.
  • Now you can display action buttons as icons, without text label.

:shrimp: Fixed Bugs

Few bugs were fixed. It does not mean Fibery has no bugs, unfortunatelyā€¦

  • Cmd + Shift + E shortcut for LaTeX does not work for selected text
  • Hide ā€˜assign to meā€™ action for read-only Synced By field
  • ā€˜Edit email/url/phoneā€™ button should be hidded for users with read-only permissions
  • Whiteboard: sometimes read only user get screen wide error out of the blue

As always, your feedback and :blue_heart:s are welcome.
With :kissing_heart:, Fibery team.

I LOVE Thursdays! I appreciate the continued commitment to quality of life improvements!

I actually like having Favorites in a visually distinct section. I donā€™t know if this is a precursor to other exciting updates, but I think a dedicated section is better UX.

:pray:t3: Bless Yā€™all!

Iā€™m excited for native batch actions but the multi-select in most views is already the value add. Thanks for shipping it sooner!

 This is amazing! Itā€™ll go a long way for entities that are actually docs. Will we see the ability to lock individual fields or entire databases from changes in the future?

I plan to keep an active Fibery Subscription for a single-user demo space. That way I can always see what new clients experience in their subscription plan. While Iā€™ve often thought the standard plan good for most, I rely heavily on JS and think that bumps people to the Pro plan who may not need the other features. That said, Fibery has an open API at any plan.

Are we considering renaming button fields or displaying multiple buttons on one line?

I know the search is experimental, but it doesnā€™t seem to work at all for me.

I get no results when searching for things I can see are blatantly are in the sidebar. Does it search all levels?

Search does not work for Smart Folders content and entities in favorites so far. But it should find Spaces, all Views inside Spaces, all Docs inside spaces

What do you mean? In entity view or in other places?

No plans and it is unlikely it will ever be done.

In Entity View - It would be nice to have a few buttons side by side in the single-column view and in the sidebar. I know Yuri has also mentioned a desire to see this in between sections on the entity page as well.

Unlikely today, but Iā€™m confident that it meets a need. Perhaps as Fibery grows.

Ahh, thatā€™s my problem then as almost everything is in smart folders, hope that comes soon.

No plans to change Entity View layout, but we will thinkā€¦

There are so good updates here! Love the new look of the left menu!

One small bug:

  1. Batch selection - batch actions popup doesnā€™t appear for entity relation views.

Also, for button icons - Personally, Iā€™d prefer the button name to also show up in the description when itā€™s just an icon. Itā€™s redundant to show the title when the title is already shown, but when hidden it would be nice to see.

finally, that search is a life-saver, thatā€™s the only thing that frustrated me
