Web sharing of a view

I don’t understand the logic behind how Fibery deals with sharing to the web and I need help. All I want to do is share a single view and the records it shows, without sharing all other databases in the space.

The first thing that confuses me is that, once I share a space to the web (because I cannot share a single view), absolutely view in that space becomes visible on the web, even if the corresponding databases are set to no permissions for anyone other than the architect. This makes no sense to me.

I also tried creating a new space and adding a view that gets populated from the one database I want publicly visible. But this doesn’t work either—the view shows the fields of the selected database, but no records, even if I do set that database to be viewable by all.

I must be missing something. How do I share a single database from a given space without having to move that database out of the space into another space just so its content can be shared to the web?

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. I’m really at a loss here.

Hey David, I’m a bit confused but I’d like to help. Could you perhaps elaborate on the actual use case?

I think the simple answer is that it is not possible.
You can share a single entity, or you can share a space (which implies sharing the views and dbs in that space).

This is currently the only way, when it comes to public sharing.

(there is more flexibility when it comes to sharing with named users, e.g. Guests, but that’s not what you’re asking for as I understand)

Hey Michael,

Current use case is I need to share a permit tracking system configuration with someone who’s actually building the system. I used Fibery to determine which fields the system will use, and which attributes, etc. I need to show this guy which inspections are required for what permit type. I know this sounds abstract, if you’re not familiar with permitting systems for construction.

Previously, the use case was sharing proposed configurations with approvers. I ended up having to export everything to a Google Sheet in order to share it.

Fibery is great for designing the systems, but then I can’t share things with those who need to approve or configure them. :frowning:

Thank you, Chris. This was what I was afraid of. :frowning:

Hey David, Unfortunately, Chris is right. This is how I did setup the agency workspace. There I have several spaces related to my business and a client space which has shrunk versions of the databases I wanted to share with my clients. This adds up complexity like syncing data and ensuring data integrity but unfortunately there was no alternative as long as I want to remain within Fibery without relying on the 3rd parties.

Are you set on public sharing, or could you give each of the people who needs access a user account?
Collaborating with other named users (and controlling what they can/can’t see/do) is much more flexible/powerful than simple (anonymous) public sharing.
