This is something that has been asked before, but here’s something I would find cool in a tool!
What if… you could just switch to different user modes, and EVERYTHING that is irrelevant would be hidden from you. So, you say you go to the mode of “scrum master of the sheep farm software project” and then you are done with your tasks there and you switch to “software developer for personal project A (say a project to make an open source event planner for soup dinners” and then you are done then and then you go to "software developer for personal project B (let’s say a project to make a language learning app for your local dialect).
Everything can be hidden that you do not want. All the colors can be changed. You get to control the information that is shown, the buttons that are shown, the notifications that can reach you and the mood that is created by colours and (let’s go crazy) sound! For the sheep farm you can listen to sheep (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ntJl6rIOKOc) and for your soup event planner you get to listen to the clanking of spoons. Or whatever you configure the specific user mode to play for you.
OK that last part is not essential But you get my point.
Personally, I would love this because I struggle to focus if I see too many options. However, I also have many interest and easily add new spaces to Fibery, which clutters it up. I would love it if I could keep cluttering, but if I can easily hide it… and not only that… that I can even hide spaces that I frequently use but that are not relevant.
For me the most natural way to do this is by adding user modes that are dependent on the role I am doing at the moment.
I know there are some similar threads here but not entirely what I describe here. But it’s close.
If this is coming I will really promote it hard for you as I know this is valuable for many people, as we are more and more overwhelmed with information. Again, the sheep songs are not essential, and colors also not, but it’s mostly about the space/information hiding and an easy way to toggle modes.
Curious what others have to say about this and if the new “Non-admin” mode for admin allows already some of what I describe.
There are (at least) two possible similar-but-different use cases:
An Admin/Architect wants to work without the clutter that comes with the extra powers
This is being worked on right now
A person needs to be an Admin for some purposes (User management, billing management, etc.) but otherwise wants to be a regular Member
We have plans for ways in which certain Admin capabilities can be more easily devolved to non-Admin users, avoiding the need to have so many Admins in the workspace. These things are not yet on the short-term horizon
Thanks for linking those! Both are interesting. But indeed, different as well.
I have an idea on how to hack this myself. With love. By making a browser plugin that removes all the HTML from the spaces that are not relevant - so I can only keep ‘tree project’. I can let the user configure different modes. And by doing this I can even change the colors and add music if I want to go crazy
Hi Chris! I just tried favorites, that works like a charm! It gets the 80% of what I wanted to achieve done.
I just ‘favorite’ the spaces that I need for my current task, and if I want to switch then I unfavorite that one and I favorite the one(s) I then want to focus on. It’s a bit more work then choosing an option from a dropdown menu but it’s only a little work, it can be done in like 2-10 seconds depending on the amount of unfavoriting & favoriting
This makes me very happy because now I can both have a whole bunch of spaces (which are useful because I use Fibery for more and more things) but I can also work in a clutterless environment.
Feature request: it would be nice if items could be added to and removed from Favorites programmatically. Then you can make buttons that enable you to show in the ‘Personal’ menu what you want to see at that moment, hiding any other clutter
Is this because you want to switch between different roles/personas when working, even though you might generally have full permissions because of boing an Admin?
