Some UI/UX suggestions

Hi everyone.

I have some suggestions for Various UI Elements:

  • Select fields: Allow for actually dark colors where the text turns white automatically. Airtable offers 4 shades for every color and they are actually distinguishable. Thats great for displaying things like Status or priority without making everything too colorful. I love that you can add your own colors in fibery, but unfortunately even pitch black is a light gray. Also: It would be amazing if you could save your own colors globally.

  • Select fields 2: Not a huge fan of the slightly darker border. I think it’d feel more modern without it. Personally I’d also prefer 50% border radius.

  • Linked record fields: I’d much prefer a solid light gray Background to the white + 1px border. The white + border makes it visually less calm in my opinion. See airtable/Notion/most other tools. Also I think sometimes its great to see the small arrow indicators to see, if one/multiple records can be linked, but tbh most of the time I whish i could turn this off so it looks cleaner and less distracting. Also height wise, the difference between select fields and linked record fields feels to big. Which select fields where slightly lower and linked records an tiny bit taller.

  • Calender: Records are too tall. With 4+ entries per day, the layout basically breaks. It might be nice for people with very few entries. But the option to make them much smaller (see google calender) would be much appreciated.

  • Dashboards: It’s impossible to hide the colored dot in the beginning at the start of a record in list view. I wish it was possible, it wastes space and a lot of time I don’t need it. And if I do I’d want the actual db name, but then I have both dot and name, which takes even more space.

  • Buttons: I really like how you can access buttons with a left click. However when you open a record, if would be awesome if you could access your buttons through a menu […] Icons on the top right. In some cases I have a bunch and seeing all of them just in the header next to Dates, Select fields etc feels wrong. Also: Conditional visibility would be huge. For example: Hide Button ā€œcompletedā€ when record already has status ā€œcompletedā€ etc.

  • Buttons 2: When choosing ā€œmove belowā€, let me display them next to each other

  • Lists view → Table view: Something inbetween. First off: I’m a big fan of Fibery List view! However since all properties are just being piled up on the right, it only works for very minimalistic views. At the same time the table view often feels visually unfortunate if you try to display a bigger lists with more visible properties. I wish there was a new in between option that looked more like Airtable Lists: you can still adjust the individual columns but just a simple line after each row. Much calmer/cleaner than a table view but same information density.

  • Overall UI Look and feel: I wish everything had a little more contrast and feels less soft and ā€œfadedā€. Basically airtable in terms of UI. Subjective obviously but I feel like they really nailed colors & contrast.
Also less warm colors or the option to turn it off. Recently fibery became weirdly warm and brown-colored. It seems like many people like it but an option to revert it would be nice. It feels more toy-like now and less like a serious tool. Not a fan at all :frowning:

  • More Layout options for Records: Basically more sophisticated Layout options for record views. Things like Columns, Title above field etc.
I most cases, the minimalistic approach of fibery works surprisingly well, but in some cases, especially for things like invoices etc, it would be great to have some key Info in bigger size and next to each other.

  • Full Width Title/Details for Records: I love how you can adjust List Views in Records to Full width. I’d love it even more if I could also set the Title and Details to full width. Often times they now sit slightly awkward in the middle while header and content are full width.

  • Tabs on Dashboard widgets: Pretty much just this. Example: If I had a Tasks widget that had Tabs for ā€œtoday, overdue, No Dateā€ etc, it would be a game changer. I think the ability to build this in notion is one of the very few things that I’d say they really have going for them (most other things not so much). It would be possible to build Dashboards that are a lot more information-dense and multi functional.

  • Tabs & multiple views on regular Pages: I guess this goes against the overall idea of Fiberys Menu structure but I do miss Tabs. Not a huge fan of having 8+ Pages just for projects because I want different filters and views. Thinking about this, if dashboards had tabs, I could also just build out most of those views out in one Dashboard and expand them as needed.

thats what’s been on my mind recently when using Fibery. It’s probably easy to tell that I’ve been unsing airtable a lot before and I agree with a lot of their design decisions. Obviously very subjective but they arguably did a pretty good job with their UI.

One general note: I was quite bothered by some of the points above and was looking for an alternative to my (relatively newly made) Fibery build for my business. But I quickly realized that there are a lot of unique things about Fibery that make so much sense that I won’t be getting anywhere else. So I decided to stay and suggest them instead

Cheers.

Some really great ideas here, and I like where you’re thinking about a lot of these. It’s clear you’ve put a ton of thought into this.

If I can make a suggestion, it may garner more support (and votes) if you can split this list into more distinct, singular items that have a clear benefit to the users of this app. There’s a lot to process here, and it’s unlikely they’ll garner a ton of votes (which Fibery uses to determine direction) unless it’s made a bit simpler for folks reading these threads – what are the immediate benefits you’re recommending?

If you’re talking about entity view, then all enabled buttons should show up in the ... action menu

You can change it in settings

Not sure what you mean by ā€˜pages’ but have you tried multiple entity views?

Thanks for the feedback @_4N I’ve parked some of them to dive deeper in future!

Full Width Title/Details for Records:

We’ve recently added a button which spreads content on Entity View to the full width, have you checked it?
