I think it would be better if Database would be renamed to Table, because a Database basically is a table in a relational database. I think it’ll make Fibery slightly more intuitive and accessible, especially for people with a bit of knowledge about relational databases.
There’s also the “Table View” which is similar to the Database… it’s not called the ‘Database View’.
Curious to read the reasoning behind the naming, but perhaps it’s to avoid confusion between the “Table” and “Table View”. I do not know if that really creates so much confusion though, but who knows I may be convinced if I know the reason behind the name
And I am curious if others think the same as me and that it’s better if it’d be called a Table. Perhaps I am only one of few to think of such a thing
Yeah man, the ‘db’ term really screws my brain. I just rename a ‘db’ into a ‘table’ in my head. But why making this more difficult (even though under the hood that ‘table’ (or ‘db’?) could indeed be the whole universe)?
Thanks for letting me know! That is not a big chance.
I saw the link Ron shared that the discussion was in 2021. I remember that moment but didn’t know it was 4 years ago! Anyways I saw the arguments there were similar to me. I see that the reason ‘Database’ was chosen was because other similar tools like Notion used that term and it made sense to sync the language between tools. I can follow that logic.
