Navigation / Smarter folders / Sections / Links

I’m trying to make Fibery truly mine with different use cases. Since it is database system and not typical project management tool is is quite hard to navigate between items. I understand this will be partially silved by introducing proper Home and maybe Dashboard view but I like when my navigation reflects my needs.

Current situation
Navigation contains spaces and views. One way to make menu more flexible is to use Smart Folders but this needs special parameters to filter and it needs to be nested inside Folder. If I want to switch between navigations I need to use tabs so constant switching. Favorite items are also just endless list.

Proposal
Folder with custom items - when you add item to favorites it displays inside Favorites section. With special folder you could add / select items to display inside this folder. With this feature I could have folder VIP Clients and then select entities to display there of folder Active projects and select specific entities. This way I could be able to customize navigation and feel more comfortable and be faster when navigating Fibery.

The other possible solution is to use Sections inside navigation. I could have Section databases where all the databases rest and then create section CRM where I could have views and items. I know views can be nested inside folder but this is related to option above where I can put single entity inside Folder or inside Section in this case. Section and folder is similiard but folders are part of endless list of items.

Another approach is to introduce Separator item which I could use to divide different parts of my navigation.

My point mainly is still to introduce possibility to add single entity inside navigation. For me Personal tab is chaotic and redundant and I simply don’t want to go there.

Another interesting addition would be Link view - this feature would be able to exist as simple link (external tool, Google sheet, documentation, own website anything you want) which gives us another level of control.

Logic behind Fibery is almost flawless nad I love the direction it heads but I don’t feel like I want to move everything to Fibery because I cannot customize it. I would love to spend as much time as possible inside Fibery but for this I need more possibilities to customize it and make it more friendly for me. I understand everybody feels differently but me personally I love tweaking Navigation to be more productive and make switching between items more comfortable.

One more feature that I miss is simple Embedd view. I know there is possibility to create item od Document and embed anything but this does not feel native. Simple view which just recieves link and wraps it inside iframe (like Figma or youtube) would be awesome and it still would go with the proposed tweaks for navigation.

Simply put sometime Fibery feels like working with phpMyAdmin (little joke) but I want it to feel more like space to manage my projects and better navgiation customization is start.

Now I see that map view is the exact way Embed view should work.

It sounds like a lot of what you want could be achieved by allowing personal folders within the Favorites part of the sidebar.
So you could mark anything (entity space, view, etc.) as a favorite, and then choose how to group them within the Favorites section.

Plus an option to create dedicated sidebar elements of the type ‘external item view’ which is just a wrapper for something not Fibery.

FWIW the sidebar has gone through a lot of evolution, and a common request is the ability to have a consistent sidebar for all users (defined by an admin) so I think it’s unlikely that the Workspace section of the sidebar will change to allow personalisation.

Not sure what you mean with this. Map view is not merely embedding an external source.

Can you elaborate a little? How can I work with Favorites and folder? Let’s say I have 5 fav items. 2 should be inside Folder A and 3 inside folder B. Is it achievable?

I know it is not embedding but it is the way to display embed. Fullpage no scrolling and resizing. This way could embed view work.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to give the impression that it was currently possible, it isn’t; I was just checking I understood your need.
If the Favorites section allowed users to group things into folders, would that be largely good enough for what you’d like to see?

Gotcha :+1:

Yes, I tried to move spaces inside folder and this partially cleans my navigation. Then I can mark folder as favorite. So I can use personal to categorize spaces and views. If Favorites would have Folders to organize items since drag and drop works this would probably solve all my problems  also when adding to favorites selecting folder would be nice too.

FYI, you might want to create a separate feature request here in the community for this

Then you might find others voting for it.
