The Fibery Whiteboard has evolved into a powerful collaboration tool, and I’ve been impressed with its capabilities. However, there’s one specific feature that would make it even better: Mind Maps.
I’ve been using Whimsical’s Mind Map feature extensively, and it’s become an essential tool for my workflow.
Mind Maps offer several advantages over traditional bullet points and even surpass the current post-it/diagramming tools available in the whiteboard:
They enable rapid visual ideation through an intuitive, branching structure that naturally follows thought patterns
They make it easier to see relationships between concepts, allowing for quick reorganization and connection of ideas
They enhance collaborative brainstorming sessions by providing a clear visual hierarchy that team members can easily follow and contribute to
They provide a more intuitive way to organize hierarchical information, making complex relationships immediately apparent
Currently, the lack of Mind Map functionality is the main reason I still need to switch between Fibery’s Whiteboard and Whimsical. Adding this feature would make Fibery’s Whiteboard a complete solution for visual collaboration needs.
Would you consider adding Mind Maps as a native feature in the Whiteboard?
This would help teams like mine fully transition to Fibery for all our visual collaboration needs.
Of course, the mind map is in our roadmap for Q1; it’s one of the key blocks for visualizing information on the whiteboard. Can you describe the use cases that would be particularly useful for you in Fibery?
Yes, at the moment it is possible to visually replicate a mind map in our whiteboard, but the behavior of nodes in the layout and during restructuring — the expected user experience when working with a mind map is missing.
This is great news! Are you seeing Mind Maps as a regular view, or as a feature on whiteboards?
If it’s the later, does this mean we would be able to define the order that the nodes get represented on the canvas? And do you think it will unlock the ability for entities to be auto added to the canvas instead of manually inserted each time?
I don’t see a strong need for a separate mind map view in the system, considering that there are plans to add a whiteboard as a relation view. I think, initially, it will be a basic mind-map module with a root node, and the user will be able to freely modify sub-nodes with an automatic layout. As for the automatic addition of entities, I can’t say anything for now
Ok great, whiteboards as a relation view is very exciting so can’t wait for that. The lack of auto entity entry is my biggest whiteboard painpoint currently since doing it manually can be very time consuming and also requires redoing layouts often (which mess up the order of things, etc).
I agree, there’s still a lot of work to be done to improve the layout behavior for entities. We’ll definitely refine it. Right now, we’re finalizing collaborative features (Follow/Comments) and fixing some rough edges in the basic behavior. If you have specific cases about card layout, could you describe them or record a video?
