February 20, 2025 / 👼 Required Fields, Comments on Whiteboards, Asana integration, some permissions improvements

This release is packed with several highly-anticipated features, including required fields and whiteboard comments.

:policeman: Required Fields

Sometimes you need to enforce mandatory fields to ensure data consistency and integrity when creating or updating entities. Now you can do it via Required fields option in the Advanced section of Field setup.

You can require a value option for almost all fields, including: Basic Text, URL, Email, Phone, Number, Date, Single Select, Parent relation (many-to-one).

Fibery always asks a user to fill required fields values for new entities. Check required fields user guide for more details.

:thought_balloon: Comments on Whiteboard

Adding comments improves teamwork by enabling users to provide feedback, ask questions, and leave notes across the board. Anyone with “can view” or “can edit” access can add and reply to comments.

Click the Comment icon in the Toolbar on the bottom, or press the Shift+C hotkey to enter the commenting mode. Then click anywhere on the whiteboard or on any object to attach your comment to that object.

To hide comments, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+C to toggle them on or off.

:open_hands: Automatically share entities with assigned Groups

Wouldn’t it be nice if you assign a Team to a Project—and its members automatically get access? That’s what we have for you today.

The automatic sharing for Groups works pretty much the same as for individual assignees: enable the toggle in the relation Field settings, and the access will be granted and revoked automatically as someone links and unlinks a Group.

This works for any User Group DB (Teams, Squads, Departments) connected to any other DB (Projects, Features, Initiatives).

Check out the user guide for details.

:eyes: See if access template is used for automatic sharing

Can you safely update or delete an access template? It depends on whether someone relies on the template for access—navigate to Usage tab to check.

Previously, this tab only included manually shared entities so you could mistakenly assume that an access template was not used when, in fact, it was. Now, in addition to manually shared entities, the tab also features Fields that use the corresponding template for automatic access.

If you try to delete an access template used for automatic access, there will be a warning message now.

:person_in_lotus_position: Asana integration

Now you can integrate Fibery with Asana or import data from Asana and move to Fibery (a good decision!).

Fibery syncs Projects, Sections Status Updates, Tags, Tasks, Teams, Team Membership, Users, Workspaces, Custom fields, Comments and Attachments. Check Asana integration guide for more details.

:apple: Desktop Apps personal settings

With Fibery for desktop, you can configure new tab to open a search window, inbox, the first item from the sidebar, or the last tab you opened. Additionally, we have added a setting to enable spell checker.

:dash: Performance Improvements

  • Fibery caches results for recently opened Board/List/Table Views now. If you navigate to already opened View during the same browser session, you will see results immediately. Note that it works only for non-context Views.
  • Timeline View scroll works much smoother now.

:butterfly: Improvements

  • Now it is easier to discover possible actions for fields in automation rules, like set formula, call AI, clear value.
  • Entity sharing popup now suggests to add not only users and groups, but also emails—to collaborate with external people.
  • Now you can set icons for Folders and Smart Folders. Only Icons are allowed (no color, no emojis).

:shrimp: Fixed Bugs

  • Whiteboard: It is possible to choose Documents to be created on Whiteboard when inserting a new card
  • Whiteboard: The section name is limited to 10 characters (God knows why
)
  • Timeline View had a gap on the bottom
  • Unrelated Credit Notes are linked to Transaction in Chargebee integration

Wowowow what an update!! I love Thursdays so much! Idk how you do it!

I’m just a bit confused (and wanted to ping a request) on quick add popup when adding an entity with a required field.

I added a new member, and it set the automatically the input as “New form” and not the Default. Is there a way for me to set which form is the default one?

And the feature request I wanted to ping was this one:

Now that the default is slowly becoming more in the direction of a form pop-up on entity creation (as most entity has required fields to keep data integrity, which is great!!!), I think theres even more of a need for this feature in forms. And more love to form view in general (conditional field view?)

And when I try to add a required field on a persion entity I get this error:

Would be great to get a popup when adding a guest to mark the type of guest they are (require field). Or any member to add to a team for that matter. But I’m also aware that the user database is a lot more complex

Hahah, fair.

Thanks for a lovely release!!

  1. In quick add last used form is remembered, and we just add required fields here
  2. It appeared we do not support required field for User entity. We will disable it on UI.

Is remembered for all users? Or for current user? I just tested and I see its for current user?

So my question is what about users who join for the first time. Which one is their default? When testing, I found it not to be the “Default” but another form that was made after. So this is a bit confusing. Maybe a bug?

Indeed it is a bug. If you created some forms before we released Quick Add Default will not be the first. We will fix it, thank you for the nice catch!

Damn, this is like a quarter worth of updates :muscle:

Timeline View had a gap on the bottom

What does this refer to exactly?

Timeline View had a gap on the bottom

The height of timeline view was calculated wrong in some cases which resulted in either extra grey backgrounds or redundant scrollbars
e.g.

Relation views or rich text’s embedded views were affected the most

I see
so it’s not the timeline gap issue I was waiting for

Oh, mandatory fields - great! That was definitely something we were missing.
Guys, also please note that the auto-link entities feature is missing the OR option. Right now, the situation is such that either all conditions must be strictly met (which isn’t always possible), or you have to link everything manually. Without the OR option, auto-link becomes a somewhat blocked feature in this case.
