Entities as sidebar items

In moving from using Documents to using a documents database, one thing I can’t easily recreate is adding Documents to the sidebar. Would be great to allow entities to be added as sidebar items for this use case. I’m sure there are many other use cases for entities as sidebar items as well.

You can use Smart Folders to have entities appear in the sidebar.

I think that’s a decent workaround, but it 1. adds another layer within the sidebar and 2. I have to think about the documents db fields/content to use for filtering, which feels like overkill when I just want to pin a couple of documents that are entities to the sidebar

Ya, we use our document database for things likely to be shared and linked across the workspace. But for documents that only stay in one location, our people tend to use the built-in document view because of how straightforward it is to use and pin in the desired location.

Some Fibery people have talked about changing the built-in document view to actually be a database, which by principle is an idea I like. I hope they consider this “sidebar pinning” use case as I think it is fairly common. For something like a Space landing/information page, it’s straightforward to use a feed view that reveals the relevant document. But in the case of a user wanting to easily create and pin a document within a folder or space, the current document view seems to be people’s preferred method. Perhaps a future system document database could still be found in the right-click or “+” menu for a Space or folder?

The built-in document view really being a built-in db would be sick. :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:
