Templates in Documents and Whiteboards?

I would love a dedicated templates feature in Fibery for documents and whiteboards. If I had a vote, I would give it to you!

Duplicating works fine for your own personal templates, but doesn’t work very well for company templates. In order to be able to duplicate, you have to have editing rights to that whiteboard (through space permissions). In a larger company that is trying to standardize more of their outputs, templates aren’t really templates if anyone can modify the master copy whenever they want. Additionally, duplicating puts the new whiteboard in the same location as the original. If I have a templates folder in the left sidebar, I have to trust that everyone will remember to drag their duplicated whiteboards to their destinations or else the templates folder is now cluttered with non-templates.

This is great news about linking sections together to make slides! That is a very cool idea. I think this thread’s templating idea could also be great in a future sections_2.0 feature. Some ideas:

  • When inserting a new section into your whiteboard, it could prompt you if you want a blank section, a personal template, or a space template
  • Where creating a template could be triggered from the section’s context menu. Personal if you create it yourself versus a space template if created by a creator/admin.
  • The benefit of templates being built inside of the sections feature is that you could easily mix and match multiple templates on one whiteboard.
