Relation not available in trigger rule

I have a relation that auto-links two entities.

I need a trigger to occur when this link happens.

As you can see, there’s no option to listen on this field.

I believe this to be a bug. If it isn’t, then please explain how this trigger is supposed to work because it’s really confusing.

Instead of using the “when entity is linked to” in the automation use the entity “is updated” and specify the relation field as the field to listen to.

That should do what you want.
