How to create a public User Guide just like Fibery's

Hi everyone! I’m creating documentation inspired by Fibery’s User Guide, and I’d love your insights.

I’m particularly interested in:

  • Database organization for smart folders
  • Setting up folder/page hierarchies effectively
  • Making the documentation publicly accessible (similar to Fibery’s approach)

My goals are to:

  • Create seamless client onboarding documentation
  • Document our online programs comprehensively
  • Create a company public handbook

What I admire about Fibery’s guide is its intuitive structure - has anyone here implemented something similar? I’d especially appreciate hearing about:

  • Your technical setup
  • Lessons learned
  • Tools and approaches that worked well

Looking forward to learning from your experiences and suggestions!

Here’s a template for a similar “User Guide” Space similar to Fibery’s User Guide:

Start by defining the various “Sections” of your user Guide:

Then create a Smart Folder for each Section, filtered to show only Guides belonging to that Section:

You can also create ordinary Documents anywhere with embedded links to various Guides:

We did this as well. I’ll mention what caused me the most confusion: The sub-guides need to have the same section in the section field as the parent guide does. Also, make sure that the “group by same database relation” button of the smart folder is selected:

You can make that happen automatically, with automations

Oh, genius! So would the rule be something like “when a guide is linked to another guide and the section field is not empty, then give the linked guide the same section value”?

Well, you might want a couple of rules:

  • when a guide gets a new ‘parent’ update its section to the same value as the parent
  • when a section changes value, propagate this change to any existing children

This automation is already part of the template I shared.

Oh, awesome! Unfortunately the template is not working anymore :frowning:

Guys, what about the sidebar menu, is it possible to make it available on the public page?

What I’ve seen so far is that the page is shared, but without the sidebar navigation.

@Chr1sG According to my Workspace, I am still sharing this template publicly - could you check into why @Renato_Carvalho is unable to access it?

The template works fine for me. Not sure what was different when @Renato_Carvalho tried

If you want the guide to be public, you can share the space (not just individual pages)

Thanks guys, I tried again and it worked now. Perhaps something temporary gave that error.

@Matt_Blais Thank you very much for the template. Will explore tomorrow! :sparkles:
