I really appreciate the recent improvements to Fibery’s file handling. I’ve run into one usability issue that has caused some confusion for our team, along with three small feature suggestions.
1. Inconsistent ellipsis menu options
The options available in the ellipsis menu differ between List view and Thumbnail view, which has tripped people up.
In Thumbnail view, the ellipsis menu includes:
-
Copy file URL
-
-
Download
-
Rename
-
Delete
In List view, the ellipsis menu only includes:
To copy a file link in List view, users need to right-click and choose Copy Link. While this works, several people assumed it wasn’t possible because the option doesn’t also appear in the ellipsis menu.
2. Commenting on files
It would be helpful to be able to comment directly on files. One thing Trello does well is allowing users to comment on an uploaded file, automatically inserting the file link and placing the cursor in the comment field.
3. Tooltip text for file names
File names are often long, and meaningful differences (such as version numbers) tend to appear at the end. For many users, files are often truncated unless the panel is resized. Showing the full file name on hover via a tooltip would make it much easier to identify files without adjusting the layout.
4. Expanded files view
An expanded view with more generous spacing would improve scannability in long file lists and make room for useful metadata. For us, that would be date and time the file was attached, and the user.

Hi!
1 and 3 will be fixed soon, 2 will not be done in near future, and could you explain what 4 means?
Thanks for your response! Great to hear that 1 and 3 will get attention.
On the expanded view, I mean providing some of the additional file information that is currently only shown in the Activity feed. For us, we’re interested in the user who uploaded the file, and the date and time they uploaded it.
Our team often rely on the time stamp to provide immediate context that verifies they’re downloading the correct file. People sometimes forget to name files correctly. But if you know who is working on the file, which for us is often the case, and when it was uploaded, it’s quicker to check that information than the file name.
In terms of how this would look, I imagine each file would occupy a single line, with the user name and date on a separate line below. Text like “Added by [User] on [Date/Time] would be great. Then a little extra padding to distinguish it from the next file below.

Two additional pieces of feedback on file handling from our team:
1. Sort files by newest first
When working with long lists of files, it would be very helpful to sort them so the most recently added files appear first in List view. Since this behaviour already exists for Comments, several people assumed the same option would be available for Files as well.
2. Drag-and-drop files directly onto entities in views
It would be useful to be able to drag a file directly onto an entity from any view (table, board, list, etc.) and have it upload automatically. At the moment, files need to be added by opening the entity first, which adds friction.
I wouldn’t expect this behaviour to work if you had more than one Files field.
