Allow smart folders/sections to be nested inside of other smart folders/sections

There’s a ton of limitations with the primary sidebar at the moment. It’s the main way our teams navigate to various entities but with only one level of “smart” structure there’s no way to make it truly dynamic/contextually structured how we want and we have no bandwidth to maintain our desired structure manually with regular “dumb” folders.

Context filtering is one of Fibery’s most powerful, unique and valuable features in my opinion but it’s been severely under implemented in many places, especially the sidebar.

Here’s my thoughts on some improved functionality with the current sidebar that would allow for so much more freedom and flexibility:

  1. Smart folders should be able to have sub-smart folders.

  2. Any Space should be configurable to behave as a smart folder itself, so we’re not required to add folders to display entities directly underneath it.

  3. Any Entity should be able to behave as a smart “folder” itself that context filters anything underneath it. I’m thinking this is somewhat similar to levels in a smart folder, only with a way to separate/label those levels as smart folders.

Maybe if smart sections were dramatically improved so we could nest them within smart folders, it could also solve a lot of my issues. They’re essentially useless (for us at least) in their current state because they just create more styling and hierarchal inconsistencies.

Here’s a mockup of the structure I’d ultimately like to create if possible:

With Sidebar redesign option 2 from your list will be possible (since it will be possible to have Smart Folder on a top level), but nested smart folders are orthogonal to our changes and I don’t see how it can be done in near future, since current Smart Folder implementation can’t handle this extension at all.

Appreciate your comments here. 1 out of 3 is a good start! I understand there would be challenges in implementing exactly what I was trying to outline here, but as long as you understand where it’s coming from and keep flexibility and context filterability top of mind as you continue to improve the sidebar that’s all I can ask.
