New Feed entity form should open as popup

Clicking the ‘+’ (New Feed entity) shows a new entity but you cannot type in it.

Expected behavior: New Feed entity should open as popup, similar to how it currently works in a List View.

But I’m pretty sure this is intentional and not a bug. Pinged on intercom a few times on this and wasn’t changed. And it was actually a pop up for a few weeks when the pop up was introduced, then changed to in line.

It makes inputting on feed view a real pain. You need press plus, create, the open, then edit the rich text, then close.

I think thats not true?

In a list view:

  1. Click + (popup shows up)
  2. Click Save

In a feed view (current classic way, which does not use popup but the form is embedded in the feed view, is the first entry)

  1. Click +
  2. Click Save

Seen the fact that the popup allows to have more easy display of fields (based on default or custom forms) I prefer the popup.

Yes, true. But the in-line input does not give place to input rich text. And when using feed view the rich text is the main part. At least in the way I use it, I want to input rich text when adding a new entity, if I want this, I need to go through the process of creating, opening, editing, closing.

Popup forms have native capability to input rich text.

Sorry, I don’t undertand what you mean.
You said ‘But I’m pretty sure this is intentional and not a bug’ but I fail to see why?

I think its likely that the New Entity popup feature development had to be put on hold before reaching the Feed View. That the current Feed View its inline New form window is too small to put anhything in, points to the developer just abruptly putting it on hold.

Without further speculation, it would be helpful if the developer can comment here.

See here when it was changed as an improvement from pop-up (the week before this) to a inline creation:

We had one week of high quality feed view data input haha.

Can this pretty please just please be changed back to a pop up. I really cant ask people to click 4 times just to make add an entity with rich text. I should just be: “New”, Type, CMD+Enter. Done.

I’m not sure how you’re counting clicks, but for me, the flow is as follows:

  • Click +New
  • (Optionally) type a name for the entity, and press return
  • Click on the rich text field and start typing

What are you doing that requires 4 clicks?

Press New, (assuming set by formula) Click create, (wait for the rich text to appear), click into the rich text to type, click out of the rich text to lose focus. Then you’re done.

It’s just not a good flow. When the popup exists, and has native rich text input. Until the in-line gets rich text input, the pop it much nicer data input.

It should have max 2 clicks, and just one if you’re using keyboard shortcuts.

I encourage the fibery team to try doing data input with rich text via the feed view and see if it’s intuitive and easy. Try adding sorting to it as well.

I want to use the feed view instead of comments as it allows for less clicks, but as it is right now it’s just unusable…

In light of UI fixes. Please? All other views have a pop-up when using the “New” button. Why is feed view any different?

The only view where Rich Text is central to what the view is about. It really doesn’t make any sense, and should be such an easy fix considering it worked like this for a week during development.

Look at the difference:

Not to mention if you have any other sorting applied where it’s not at the top when creating the entity.
