Hello Fibery team! ![]()
We noticed some challenges with Documents.
Many people come to Fibery from simpler text editing tools like Microsoft Word, Google Docs or Apple Notes. For them the document system in Fibery feels quite complex and breaks the expected writing UX.
Some examples:
-
many hover controls appear everywhere (reorder dots, title anchors, etc.) - and they seem like an omnipresent cursor or distraction, although they are not needed for many documents at all
-
when trying to convert existing text into a Title, the structure sometimes changes in an unexpected way
-
it is not always clear how to create a new Title without affecting the text below it
-
because of this, some users become afraid of editing existing documents and even duplicate the document to continue writing
We understand that Fibery Documents are powerful and block-based, but this behavior can be confusing for users who simply want to write text and not power-users
.
We have a few suggestions that could make adoption easier:
1. Simple official video guide
A short video explaining how the document editor works:
-
blocks and titles
-
how to safely edit existing text
-
slash commands
-
best practices for writing documents
This would help teams quickly onboard users who are new to the block-editor concept.
2. Less intrusive hover controls (optional setting)
It might help if hover controls (reorder dots, etc.) could appear only when a block is selected, instead of constantly appearing while moving the cursor.
For example:
-
select a text block → reorder controls appear
-
select text → formatting tools appear
Slash commands could still remain available. It can be as optional settings in documents.
3. Optional “Simple Writer Mode”
Another idea could be an optional mode that behaves more like classic text editors.
For example:
-
Enter creates a normal new line instead of a new block
-
automatic conversions (#, -, 1.) are disabled
-
formatting happens only when explicitly applied
-
a simple toolbar is always visible in the top-left corner
This could make the writing experience closer to traditional editors and help non-technical users feel more comfortable.
