Duplicate a workspace/templating

Hi all, I don’t think this has been requested yet.

We are using Fibery for an organization – and this organization has many “working groups”. Each working group has their own space and each space looks basically the same:

Within a space, the working group can create and manage “Internal Tasks” and they can create and manage “Meeting Notes”. I’ve just been manually duplicating the databases, relations, and automations, then renaming the space. It would be nice if I could just copy and paste the full thing, just like templates, but templates to be reused within a workspace.

I agree that it could be very useful to have a “Duplicate Space” function.

But once we have working Entity Permissions (which could restrict access to Tasks based on User and group membership) would that not be a much better solution for your case?

Now I would suggest approaching this with Entity permissions and Smart Sections instead of multiple Spaces:

  1. Create Working Group DB and add relations to Tasks and Notes DBs

  2. Add your Working Groups

  3. Share each Working Group with the right set of people, extending access to the linked Tasks and Notes.

  4. Create a Smart Folder grouped by Working Groups in any Space and turn it into a Smart Section to put outside Spaces.

  5. Add context Views and mirror those relevant for all the Working Groups.

This way you don’t have to duplicate and maintain identical DBs and everyone only sees what they have access to in the sidebar.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
