Please add the option of having a default value for People fields. This would be very useful for automatically assigning a specific person to a task on creation.
In my case I would use it as a workaround to have tasks show up in “My Work” widget without me having to assign myself to every task manually. This is my workflow since it is a personal workspace.
Have you considered using an automation rule to assign yourself every time a Task is created?
Yes, that will be my workaround for now. Is there a reason default values cannot be added globally for (almost) all field types? Maybe except for files, documents and whiteboards. Otherwise I think it makes sense to add it to all types.
This worked for me, If you add a field to your user table called ‘Self’, then on your assignee field under ‘Advanced’ set ‘Automatically link Assignee with Tasks’ and map ‘Created By’ == ‘Self’

In fact we considered that, but so far we decided to not add default values to relation fields, it’s pretty challenging, so postponed.
