As systems get more complex, some things that use to be manual inputs become formulas from parents. Changing from a manual input to a formula would make this change much much easier. Then we wouldn’t need to refactor other rules of formulas.
I’ve started using formulas on fields I THINK might be replaced with a formula, just to not need to reconfigure later. Allowing this conversion (Like to name to formula) would be fantastic for all fields.
Another solution to the same problem: Automatically relink broken fields if they have the same name and field type. This is more flexible honestly, but it might also result in things the user didn’t know was happening under the hood.

If the relationship breaks, the subsequent lookup breaks. Never mind. My brain isn’t working this morning, I misread your post.

Ik encountered this myself yesterday with a text field that had a rule behind it which i removed and replaced with a formula field.
Ik do wonder how often this would occur now that the formulas are available. Will this be a regular requirement, or only something we need to replace existing fields? (It would be nice in both situations, just wondering).
