Referring to the updated Sept 2025 permission roles: Fibery vs on what is on the access template
The overview failed to discuss further what the roles means. Like for the followings:
- Which roles are part of the free users? (Contributor, Commenter, Viewer?)
- How is the two icons different?
? What is :gear:, why it is separate from the owner if that is the main admin who should at least have all the permissions?
- There is a (highlight yellow) under (Viewer,
, Space) cell but not value inside.
- If the free user is based on external users and contributors are internal? How does fibery determine/limit the account based on registration, like the app will check the domain of the workspace used? If registered as admin@companyA.com, does this mean user@mail.companyA.com is treated as a Contributor?
First of all, let me note that these changes have not yet gone live. I’ve updated the upcoming guide to make it clear. Sorry for not doing that earlier.
As for the questions:
Viewer and Commenter can be used for Observers (aka read-only users), which are free of charge. Guests, also free of charge, can be given any access but only to individual entities, not Spaces or Databases.
- I’ve supplemented the icons with labels for clarity.
- That’s because there used to be a capability there, but now it’s gone (because the old
Viewer was actually Commenter in disguise).
- Typically, Observers are your colleagues who don’t use Fibery as their primary work platform (yet) and whom you invite for transparency. Guests are external collaborators (e.g., clients, freelancers, suppliers) with whom you share specific projects and tasks. We don’t try to determine which is which based on the email domain; you define the role for each user.
