Just FYI I’m posting this here because “Ideas and Features” has been set explicitly for ‘new stuff’ and this is not new at all but rather a small yet significant usability issue.
This issue is dependency links that are so messy and hard to follow that it makes it very unclear (particularly for consecutive items that are long but have dependencies that start before the other one ends). Labels overlaid on top of short-run items also make it look extremely messy with a lot of short items.
The screenshot below is of an incomplete Gantt view we’re only just starting to move into Fibery (composite of a Gantt from several R&D partners, we can’t control how they define or order their item definition/length and dependencies). If we moved the whole Gantt chart in, it would look 10x worse.
The original Gantt is in Clickup, which we’re trying to move away from, but the view in Clickup is far more clean and usable due to the simple fact of right angle dependency connectors that aren’t hidden and swooshing around, and labels that are offset. It’s much more readable and easy to visually parse.
Please consider allowing users to select ‘right angle’ lines vs curved lines for dependency links.
At the same time, please consider allowing users to select labels overlaid on the Gantt/timeline item vs offset (to the right of it).
This is really simple, basic stuff, and IMHO would be a very small and quick but very high value update to Gantt and Timeline views, and would increase usability.
