There is a distinction between what we tend to call ‘mentions’ which is what you create with #write\_something (or [[ something) and ‘link-to-entity’ which you create by highlighting text and choosing the link to entity option.

The former is unchanged if you upgrade, but the latter functionality is replaced with ‘highlights’.
